There are a lot of bluetooth headsets on the market, but if you are looking for one of the best selling models, you have to take a look at the Plantronics Voyager 510 bluetooth headset. Plantronics has packed quite a few features into this model, which removes any doubts or questions why it is among the top selling models. If you haven't seen it yet, they have included their famous Windsmart technology to help you easily switch between headsets if you may have multiple devices that you intend to use. The best part is that all of these features are packed into an incredibly lightweight, comfortable device that you can wear all day without feeling any irritations.
The Multipoint technology that has been installed into these devices keep track of which bluetooth transmitter you are using at the time, which is great if you have more than one phone, or a laptop or other PDA bluetooth device. Because this device can help you differentiate between with device you are using
Plantronics has also thought about battery life when it came to the 510 model, with the headset coming in at 6 hours of talk time, with a healthy 100 hours of standby time. A lot of models don't have much in terms of standby time, or have incredible battery life but include no features at all. The 510 model has overcome both of these hurdles.
All in all, Plantronics has their game together when they began producing the model 510 bluetooth headset. With the ability to transfer between multiple devices without troubles, as well as being able to enjoy your headset for hours on end without having to stick it back on the charger are two of the features that make this model one of the all time best sellers.

The technology that goes into designing and manufacturing a bluetooth headset has been around for a very long time, but the engineers have actually reworked it to provide a lot more functionality, instead of a mere line of sight type of beam. The way that this type of technology used to work, and is actually still being employed to this day is infrared technology, or IR beams. These beams are used mainly for remote controls, and for computers and other electronic devices to communicate with each other, but there is one huge problem with this type of technology. The problem lies in the fact that you have to have a visible line of sight from device to device, and if there is something blocking this path, the two devices will have issues communicating.
You have probably seen what I am talking about. Take your remote control or example, you have been changing through the channels at some point in time only to have someone walk in front of you. If you were holding the button down with the channels changing automatically, they will suddenly stop. However, if you were pressing the button each time you wanted to go to the next channel, while someone was in front of you, then you would be unable to pass the beam to the receiving device. The reason this happens is because remote controls and other similar infrared devices use beams of low level light that cannot be picked up by the human eye. Because there is something blocking the patch between the remote and the receiving device, this beam of light can't travel to it's destination.
However, with the advent of bluetooth technology, you no longer have to worry about having objects or people within the line of sight for your devices. Bluetooth does away with this by using wireless signals that bounce around the room in an attempt to grab a connection. Once the connection has been made, the signals become super focused and the bluetooth device will release itself from discovery mode. You now are able to walk around the house, having walls, people, furniture, even the dog standing in the way without having to worry about losing the signal on your call. Whereas before these types of objects would cut the signal off, having a bluetooth capable receiving device within range, usually around 5 to 10 feet, you are going to get the signal regardless of what is around.
There are still some exceptions to this, with certain metals causing interference with bluetooth signals. Microwave ovens typically cause bluetooth signals to drop, so if you are going to be around a microwave while you are on the phone make sure that the person knows you may fade out for a second, or will be unavailable. As long as you have the actual receiver located away from the metals or the microwave oven you will be alright. Getting in range of the microwave with the bluetooth headset on will cause interference in the signal, but it will resume again once the microwave shuts off, or you move out of reach of the waves being emitted by it.

A lot of people are wearing bluetooth headsets now days and for good reason. The prices on these small devices have dropped substantially over the last few years, with ever increasing battery life as well as range from the originating device. This all adds up to giving you an incredible value, and you can easily see why so many consumers are switching over to the hands free wireless headset devices using bluetooth technology. You can pick up one of these devices for less than $30 most of the time, with some of the higher end models ranging up to a couple hundred dollars or more. If all you need is a ear piece to use for your cell phone, or house phone, you can easily get away with purchasing one of the lower end models, as the more expensive types are geared more towards people trying to find a certain look, or a certain set of features for their device. They range from the basic blocky models that I am sure you have seen, all the way up to almost invisible around the ear and over the ear styles, and a few models that have incredible noise cancellation features to keep from picking up outside noises and conversations.
The old way of transferring a signal by low vision infrared light beams is long gone. Now manufacturers have upgraded to the Bluetooth technology that mixes a blend of wireless signals to help find a frequency. With older methods if there was something blocking the beam between the sending device and the receiver, the beam would be interrupted and the information wouldn't be passed over it any longer. With bluetooth though, you can have walls and other obstacles in between yourself and the communicating device and this means that whether you are in your home or your office, that you aren't going to have to worry about dropped calls and poor reception.
For the most part, people use these devices with the cell phones so that they aren't reaching around when it rings, or fumbling through everything in their pocket to find the phone. If they have a bluetooth headset they can easily press a button located next to their ear to either send the call to the voice mail, or choose to take the call and begin the conversation. This hands free movement means that you can get a lot more accomplished throughout the day by not having to have your neck bent sideways holding the phone as you are stirring together a pasta sauce for dinner. There are going to be other times where you know that there are important calls coming in, and are going to have your hands completely tied up unable to get to the phone. Some of the more advanced, higher end devices will allow you to speak into them stating what you want to do with the call. This is a life saver if you are a true go getter and find yourself in the position of missing calls because you are too busy.
